Focus on perfect interaction

STOBER develops its innovative products even further and offers a modular system.

Top connectivity and flexibility thanks to suitable interfaces – STOBER is developing its drive technology further in exactly this direction. The portfolio includes STOBER’s own gearboxes, electric motors, drive controllers and cables. Thus, the specialist offers components for the entire drive train that can be individually combined to fit specific requirements. This portfolio gives users the ability to find the solution that meets their requirements.

Pforzheim, Germany, 2025-05-27 – “Our extensive modular system not only guarantees perfect compatibility with existing components, but can also be integrated into systems from other suppliers,” explains Dr. Florian Dreher, CTO at STOBER Antriebstechnik. “The aim is to achieve the best possible flexibility for our customers.” This starts with the drive controllers: STOBER will expand the standard PROFINET and EtherCAT communication interfaces to include EtherNet/IP. “This will enable us to support around two thirds of the internationally available control systems in the near future,” explains Dreher. “This makes it easier for our customers to use our products worldwide and makes the switch to a STOBER solution so much easier.”

Another new product on the market is the SB6 drive controller, which has also been optimized for interface flexibility and worldwide usability. As Dreher states, “Whether in Europe, the USA or Asia – the SB6 offers even highly specialized users around the world a reliable and flexible solution.”

STOBER’s portfolio includes a large selection of modular coaxial and angular gearboxes. The drive specialist is constantly refining these components. The high-precision servo right-angle gearboxes from the KS series were recently optimized, now enabling even higher output speeds. This opens up additional potential for customers to increase system efficiency, particularly in highly dynamic applications. The proven quality features of STOBER gearboxes naturally remain the same as always: robust bearing technology, durable gearing and an extremely low gear backlash.

“We have learned that installation space in modern machines is often in short supply,” says Dreher. “Our powerful and versatile synchronous servo motors from the EZ series often achieve the required performance with significantly less installation space than comparable competitor products.” STOBER is also consistently refining this series: The motors can be mounted directly on STOBER gearboxes without additional sub-assemblies, thereby creating a design that significantly reduces the required space.

The geared motors can be operated not only with STOBER drive controllers, but also with controllers from numerous other manufacturers. Dreher explains, “Today’s customers want the flexibility to configure their drive concept across manufacturers. With us, that’s no problem at all.”

Important transfer topics

“We always take relevant trends and applicable guidelines into account in our developments,” says Florian Dreher. “For example, we take the European directive on cybersecurity very seriously.” This obliges manufacturers to identify, disclose and rectify vulnerabilities in digital product components. STOBER continuously works on meeting these requirements. According to Dreher, “It is important to us to minimize the danger of cyberattacks for our customers as much as possible.”

Another key transfer topic is how to protect people from machines. “STOBER offers modern extensions for this – above all the new SX6 safety card. This means that 6th generation controllers can be used in safety-critical environments (SIL 3, PL e, Cat. 4),” explains Dreher. “Only a few providers achieve this level of security. Integration into the machine concept takes place via common interfaces such as FSoE. Our solutions therefore enable machine manufacturers to protect their users effectively.”

Operators increasingly want to know how their machine is doing. STOBER has integrated a software package that continuously monitors the drive train during operation. The resulting analysis of relevant process and machine data is used as the basis for issuing maintenance recommendations and even identifying potential areas of optimization. “Users benefit from better servicing planning, while machine manufacturers receive reliable characteristic values from practical experience, which they can use to further develop their drive concept more effectively,” explains Dreher.
